- OCCUPATIONS -

Welcome to the Virgil I. Grissom High Class Of 1981 web site.

We will be leaving the website up for now and hope that you will continue to connect with each other and share photos, announcements and keep in touch.  We can also use the email data base to send out announcements of plans in town to get together.  Just email me and I'll send it out.  There are several groups forming in town that include multiple graduating classmembers so there is bound to be activity to report.  One group is having a get together at LeeAnn's on July 15th and another group is talking about a cruise or trip to FL.  So I'll try to keep everyone informed of what I hear.

I wanted to remind everyone to continue to post your reunion photos and also your family photos.  It really makes the site a great place to visit for us all.

Also, please remember that many of our classmates have been affected by the economy with job loss in their homes.  If you know of an employment opportunity no matter where you are located please post it under the "Employment Ops" tab to help out.  I'm sure that breadwinners would consider employment anywhere in the country to support their families.  And our classmates cover a broad area of the country from coast to coast.

I think I have finally recovered from the reunion...lol.  I'm ready for the next one now!!!

Talk to you soon!

Jen

ANNOUNCEMENTS

I have invited classmates from surrounding classes to join our site as guests.  They will appear seperately from our class under the heading "guest members".  You must scroll down to the bottom of the profile page to find the guests.  We already have responses from class of 80 and 83 and I'm sure there are more.  There is talk amongst us of planning a multi class event in the future so I thought inviting them to join our site...and discussions would be helpful, not to mention....I just love them all too!!  We were unique in high school in that we were a large group of students that bonded across class year bounderies!!  Our reunion was a perfect example of mixing up the classes....From our volunteer hostesses to classmate spouses and then just pop in crashing classmates we had several years covered.  I hope there is noone that is opposed to adding guests to the site.  If there is an overwhelming objection I will suspend the option.

Jen

- THIS DAY IN HISTORY -

High Wycombe Weighs New Mayor 20th May ( 1958 ) : An annual custom dating back to medieval times unique to High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England weighs the Mayor of the town each year so that the public can see whether or not he has been getting fat at the taxpayers' expense.

During the weigh in performed by the local "macebearer" dressed in traditional costume rings a bell and calls out the weight.
When he adds the words "And no more!" the crowd cheers as a sign of their appreciation and gratitude for the hard work done by the mayor for the community.

When he adds the words "And some more!", it means the mayor has been indulging in too much good living at rate payers' expense and the crowd jeers and boos.

Charles Lindbergh 20th May ( 1927 ) :Charles Lindbergh who many called the "flying fool" has set off from Roosevelt Field in Long Island, NY, today flying the "Spirit of St. Louis" on an epic flight from New York to Paris and is a milestone in flying aviation history, he is expected to arrive in Paris sometime late tomorrow. His plane A Ryan is expected to travel up to 125 MPH as the fuel load decreases.

Freedom Riders 20th May ( 1961 ) An angry mob consisting of all white's attacked a busload of "Freedom Riders" ( Freedom Riders were testing the United States Supreme Court decision Boynton v. Virginia, that gave them a legal right to disregard local segregation ordinances regarding interstate transportation facilities. ) in Montgomery, Ala., prompting the federal government to send in United States marshals to restore order.
